Originally designed for vacuum metallurgy and vacuum coating processes, VON ARDENNE's high-power electron beam systems proved to be the tool of choice for heat flux testing of plasma-facing components. Each system can generate power ranging from 50 kW to 800 kW per EB gun, with energies up to 60 keV. The modular design of the EB guns, together with puls-enabled high-voltage power supplies, and high-frequency beam guidance electronics and deflection systems, makes it possible to precisely adapt the energy source and its power distribution to the test target and test regime.
VA BCOS, the Electron Beam Guidance Software suite, not only controls the system but also supports the design of electron beam scanning patterns and traces through heat flux profile modeling and energy density predictions on the impact surfaces.
The available electron beam systems can be used, for example, for fatigue tests with continuous beam operation over several hundred hours, and for the simulation of transient plasma events by using high-frequency beam deflection, synchronization of multiple guns, as well as beam pulsing with pulse durations in the range of a few milliseconds.
Besides our EB system, VON ARDENNE offers complete heat flux testing solutions including vacuum chamber, equipment and control software.
