How the Variocathode works:
A variocathode operates by varying the distance between the cathode and anode while maintaining a constant acceleration voltage and consistent cathode heating. This includes stable electron optics within the electron beam gun, achieved by extracting electrons from a space charge region located in front of the cathode. This method allows for precise beam focusing and extends the lifespan of the cathode.
