On 23 June 2016, VON ARDENNE joined the non-profit organization PVthin. It is a global initiative
by leading companies and research institutions representing the whole value chain of thin-film
photovoltaics. The agreement to join the PVthin was signed during the Intersolar in Munich by
the President of PVthin, Andreas Wade, and the CEO of VON ARDENNE, Thomas Krischke.
One of the key objectives of PVthin is to strengthen global energy security and to support the
transition to a low-carbon economy by promoting thin-film solar technologies.
Furthermore, PVthin has the aim to cooperate with associations and industries that support
responsible product management at end-of-life and internalized holistic environmental
footprinting based on Life Cycle Assessment.
Another priority will be to encourage resource-efficient production, sustainable raw material
use and investments in programs and technologies that enable responsible recycling and
recovery.
Apart from that, PVthin offers a platform for research on both mature and emerging thin-film
PV technologies. Beyond that, the association seeks to inform about on the potential of thinfilm
photovoltaics and their environmental, social, economic and technological benefits.
“VON ARDENNE fully supports the objectives of PVthin”, said Thomas Böcke, Director Sales,
Solar of VON ARDENNE. “We are pleased to be a member of this growing association and to
further promote resource-efficient energy generation and the efficiency enhancement of the
thin-film technology”, Böcke continued.
